HP People Talk About: Working from Home

The wellbeing of our people has always been a top priority, and over the past several weeks, HP has taken the steps necessary to keep our employees, their families, and our contractors, partners, and customers safe.

In the early stages of the global pandemic, our leadership team took immediate action by sending employees and contractors to work from home, canceling all in-person meetings and events, and restricting international and domestic travel. You can learn more about HP’s response to COVID-19 by accessing our press center.

While there are many challenges during this unprecedented time—working from home being just one of them—HP employees are modeling a growth mindset by adapting to and embracing new ways of working.

Set up your home office.

For many people, creating a home office that feels familiar is comforting. Search for little things that make it feel more efficient and productive, but also more like you. Hear about Abigail’s experience and get inspired by the tips that keep her motivated:

Start your day with a cup of coffee (or tea).

No need to do it alone—invite your team to join you for this morning ritual. See how Julia starts her day:

Reserve time to take care of yourself.

Taking regular breaks throughout the day to ensure you’re properly hydrated, fed, rested, and recharged can make a big difference in how you’re feeling. And humor always helps. Take it from our colleague, Suzie, who shares her secret tip that none of her colleagues have seen—yet!

Remain flexible.

Use your creativity to work out solutions. Maybe your internet connection is unstable at times, or perhaps you don’t have that second monitor at home. Rifky developed a clever solution to get his work done—and check out his new colleague:

Welcome some new coworkers.

These days, you may unexpectedly see a family pet while on a video conference call. You might hear a child in the background. Embrace it, as our personal lives have intersected with our work lives in all-new ways. Watch Madalina discuss how she’s learning to share a home office with her husband, toddler, and dog:

Continue your exercise routine.

Regular physical activity reduces anxiety and boosts your mood, among many other benefits. It may be difficult to follow your workout schedule now, so find ways to help yourself continue your healthy habits. Carlos used to participate in classes at the office gym, and he’s sharing with us all how he’s enjoying them nowadays together with his wife and daughter:

Stay connected.

You don’t need to physically be in the same office to feel a sense of community. Watch our colleagues in Barcelona demonstrate how they work together and still have fun:

That’s what it’s like to be part of HP.
